The Silex knife is neither forged nor stamped. The metal composition is 85% iron and 14% chrome with trace elements of other metals. The components are melted into a liquid solution into which nitrogen gas is injected. The solution is then cooled, and a second melting sequence takes place with a subsequent nitrogen injection. The next part of the manufacturing process takes place under an air-tight vacuum, so that no contamination of the metal can occur. After being cooled, the metal is then sliced by laser and the blade knives are laser cut from those slices. The blades are then tempered after being heated with liquid nitrogen. This new manufacturing process gives the Silex knife very unique physical properties: • Purity of the metal • Unrivaled hardness • Fineness of structure only equaled by surgical scalpel • Exceptional flexibility • Extremely high strength • Special corrosion resistance of the blade Due to the purity of the metal it is extremely easy to re-sharpen the knife and due to its hardness the knife’s edge stays sharp for an inordinately long time. The Rockwell reading of the Silex is 57 / 58. Typically knives falling in this range of the scale are very difficult to re-sharpen and we are proud that this is not the case with the Silex knives. The tang is perforated, allowing the polymer of the handle to form a strong bond around it. The ergonomic design of the handle provides exceptional comfort when handling the knife, in turn improving efficiency in the workplace. The polymer handle is composed of antibacterial material.
